Sports Lincoln is home to the University of Nebraska Lincoln Cornhuskers, and residents enjoy attending the many Husker sporting events that happen each season. Recreation Lincoln takes great pride in its extensive parks and recreational system that totals more than 6,000 acres. With 125 parks, 128 miles of trails, seven public recreation centers, and five golf courses, Lincoln offers its residents an abundance of playgrounds, parklands, green space, and hiking/biking trails. Pioneers Park, a local favorite, covers 500 acres and includes horse, bike, and walking trails, as well as ponds, picnic areas, ball diamonds, and an outdoor amphitheater.
Arts Nationally touring theater, ballet, symphony, concerts and opera make themselves known in Lincoln and beyond. The Lied Center, Pershing Auditorium, and The Devaney Center are all venues where national touring artists and shows perform. The Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden, located on the University of Nebraska campus, has a comprehensive and prominent collection of American art. Lincoln has several additional distinguished museums including the Museum of Natural History and the Nebraska State Historical Society. The Ralph Mueller Planetarium features laser light shows and the viewing of the International Space Station.
